How does the memorial tree program work?

Contact the City of Georgetown's Parks and Recreation Department at (512) 930-3595 and fill out a Memorial Tree Application Form.

Return your application along with payment to the Parks and Recreation Administration office. Application forms will not be accepted without full payment. Trees may be donated any time of the year, however they will only be planted during the tree planting season (late October through early March).

In this document you will find "Georgetown's Approved Memorial Tree List" which lists nine tree species you can pick from along with a brief description of each tree. During the tree planting season, (late October thru early March) Georgetown Parks and Recreation employees will purchase and plant the tree you selected. The trees will be planted in parks based on current lack of trees, the decline of existing mature trees, if suitable soil type is present and future park development plans. At this time we are planting the memorial trees in San Gabriel Park. The exact location within the park is at the discretion of the Urban Forester; however donator's request will be taken into consideration. Georgetown Parks and Recreation has placed a one year warranty on all memorial trees. If the tree dies within one year from the time it is planted, we will replace the tree with a tree of the same size and species, at our expense.

The donor will be contacted after the tree has been planted, at which time the donor can chose to install a small memorial plaque. The plaques should be no larger than 16" X 10". The City will install the plaque, but is not responsible for replacing a plaque if it is damaged or stolen. The most resilient plaques are made of granite and cast bronze; other materials such as engraved metal and plastic plates do not last for long. If you are interested in installing a plaque, the parks and recreation staff has a list of companies who make plaques.

For trees, we embed the plaque beneath the cover of the branches, but outside the area of the mulch. Benches, the plaque is in the front, secured within the concrete slab.

What do you receive for your $130.00?
