Adventure Camp is a unique opportunity for youth to be exposed to outdoor adventure activities and challenges in a fun, safe, and healthy environment. Each session will offer campers opportunities to learn life-long recreation skills and promote the positive use of free time. Our program will provide outdoor experiences that will help youth to gain self-confidence, responsibility, self-awareness, problem-solving and decision making skills.

Session 1: “Welcome to Adventure” (Ages 11-12)

Join us for eight days of activities in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. Adventures include our local Zipline, snorkeling on the Cossatot River, rock climbing at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, and a 3 day canoe camping trip on the scenic Kings or Buffalo River.

Session 4: New Mexico Travel Camp (Ages 13-17)

This year we’re heading to Northern New Mexico for eight days of outdoor activities. Adventures include summiting the highest mountain in both Texas and New Mexico, rock climbing in El Rito, kayaking on the Rio Grande River, and a 3 day backpacking trip in the Wheeler Peak Wilderness.

Session 5: Extreme Water Sports (Ages 12-17)

If you like the water, then this is the session for you. The first week we’ll spend making day trips which include the Georgetown Challenge Course, whitewater kayaking, snorkeling, wake boarding, and sailing. The second week we’ll travel to Galveston Island for some beach time, fishing, and stand up paddleboard surfing.
Fee: $440 Resident; $550 Nonresident
All camps will begin and end at the Georgetown Teen Center located at 1003 N. Austin Ave.
The “Welcome to Adventure” and “Welcome to Water Adventure” camps will consist of five days of adventure activities for kids ages 11-12. Programming will primarily run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Parents will be required to sign their children in and out each day. Normal drop off times will be from 7:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Early drop off (7:00 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.) will be available for an additional $5 per week fee. Normal pick up times will run from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. All children should be picked up by 6:00 p.m. unless your child is 12 years old and has a membership at the Recreation Center. After 6:00 p.m. a $10 fee will be charged for every half-hour until the child is picked up. This fee must be paid at time of pick-up.
The Extreme Water Sports camps will include five days of day adventures and a 3 day overnight camping experience. This camp will include team building on our ropes course and daily snacks. The daily programming for the first week will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. (Some days may be extended). Campers who need early drop off and late pick-up will be able to exercise Teen Center membership privileges during the first week of camp. Participants will be required to wear an Adventure Camp name tag and follow all facility rules.
The Arkansas and New Mexico Travel Camps will consist of various adventure activities, overnight primitive camping, and a service project. Participants will be out of state for an eight day period.
A 2018 Summer Camp Liability and Policy Agreement must be completed by Parent / Legal Guardian and is due at the time of registration.
Registration begins at 8:00 am on March 26 (Residents) and March 27 (Nonresidents).
A $30 nonrefundable deposit is due at time of registration. The remaining balance for camp must be paid in full by the Monday one week prior to the start of camp (7 days in advance of scheduled attendance). If the balance is not paid in full by the Monday one week prior to camp, your child’s spot will be forfeited to the next child on the waitlist. You will lose your reservation and your $30 deposit.
Refunds, minus the $30 nonrefundable deposit, will only be given if notice is received 7 or more days prior to the start of camp. No refund will be given with less than 7 days’ notice. Complete refunds (including deposits) will only be given for departmental cancellations. Because of staffing requirements, fees will not be prorated for partial attendance. Tuition is based on a full week.
Registration is limited to 12 participants per session on a first to register basis.
Parents/guardians and campers should attend a mandatory orientation meeting from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on either Wednesday, May 9th or Tuesday, May 29th in the Community Room of the Parks & Recreation Administration Building (1101 N. College St.). You will receive a parent information packet, be informed on critical logistics, be sized for technical equipment, and meet the Adventure Staff. All registered campers who attend one of the two meetings will receive a Nalgene water bottle. Please make every effort to attend one of these two meetings.
The adventure program will provide technical and camping equipment necessary for adventure activities. Personal clothing and items will be discussed at the orientation meeting. Registration fees include meals prepared while camping. Participants will be responsible for meals while traveling ($30-$100 depending on session).
