American Red Cross Certification Classes

Training people on how to respond to and prepare for emergencies is the core mission of the American Red Cross.

These certification classes teach new skills and keep you knowledgeable and ready to respond in almost any emergency situation. American Red Cross certification is a way of demonstrating that you are prepared for a wide range of emergencies in any aspect of your life.

Candidates must pass practical and/or written examination to receive certification.

Program Cancellation and Withdrawal Policy

Refunds will only be given if notice is received 7 or more days prior to the start of course. No refund will be given with less than 7 days’ notice. Because of staffing requirements, fee will not be prorated for partial attendance.

Ages 15+

The course requires participants to complete 7 hours of at your own pace online work before attending the in-person sessions. Each participant must pass a pre-course water skills test before they will be allowed to continue the course. Certification materials include Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. To receive a certification, each participant must complete the online course work and pass a skills and written test.

Completing the lifeguarding course and gaining a valid certification does not guarantee employment with the City of Georgetown.  Aquatics staff are hired through the City of Georgetown’s online application process. Please visit georgetown.org/jobs to view open positions and apply.
