Safety Week

Join Georgetown Parks and Recreation for a week-long event dedicated to promoting safety in our community. We will offer a number of classes and interactive discussions on a variety of safety-related topics, such as self-defense, weight room safety and etiquette, water safety, traffic safety, Take 10 CPR and more!

Monday, May 6

Senior Self-Defense Academy
Ages 55+
4:30-6:30 p.m.
FREE / Advanced registration required
Location: Georgetown Recreation Center

Provided by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, this free academy teaches self-defense classes to all ages. Led by Deputy Brandon Schaefer, the academy focuses on personal safety awareness and self-defense techniques to help individuals defend themselves in a time of need.

Tuesday, May 7

Youth & Teen Self-Defense Academy-SOLD OUT
Ages 10-17
6:30-8:30 p.m.
FREE / Advanced registration required
Location: Georgetown Recreation Center

Adult Self-Defense Academy

A Safe Place Presentation
All ages (presentation is geared toward children)
5:15-6:00 p.m.
FREE / Walk-ins welcome

Location: Takes place in the north parking lot at the Georgetown Recreation Center, near the Creative Playscape.
The Safe Place program helps make our hometown safe for kids by providing the youth of our community with assistance as needed. Come see and explore different City of Georgetown vehicles and equipment and learn about Safe Place!

Thursday, May 9

Weight Room Orientation – Lifting Safety and Gym Etiquette
Ages 15+
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
FREE / Advanced registration required
Location: Meets in lobby at Georgetown Recreation Center

This free, 90-minute orientation is led by a certified personal trainer and designed to educate individuals new to strength training. This session will include an overview of the cardio and strength training machines in the weight room.

Friday, May 10

Take 10 CPR with Georgetown Fire Dept.
All ages
1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m.
FREE / Walk-ins welcome
Location: Takes place at the Georgetown Recreation Center in Teen 2

Take 10 CPR is a nationally recognized program that the City of Georgetown Fire Department is promoting to improve cardiac arrest survival rates. These cardiac arrest survival rates drop dramatically when bystander CPR is not initiated within the first few moments after someone goes into cardiac arrest. This hands-on CPR program is free of charge, only takes 10 minutes to learn but does not include a certification card.

Saturday, May 11

Water Safety Day
All ages
10 a.m.-1 p.m.
FREE / Walk-ins welcome
Location: Georgetown Recreation Center Outdoor Pool

Kick off the summer swim season with a fun-filled and educational family event designed to increase public awareness about drowning prevention and water safety.

Visitors will learn important safety topics such as: drowning prevention, water rescue skills, proper life jacket use and more. Booths will be set up with games, activities and prize giveaways! Visit all vendors and receive your choice of $10 off summer 2019 swim lessons* OR $20 off a summer 2019 pool pass*.

Traffic Safety School
Ages 16+
9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
$40 Resident, $50 Nonresident / Advanced registration required
Location: Georgetown Recreation Center

State approved, six-hour Texas Education Agency class for ticket dismissal or for an insurance discount. You must pass the exam with a score of 70% or higher. This fun and educational class provides you with “Knowledge Driving System Information.” Pizza is provided for no extra charge.
