COVID-19 Program Protocols

In response to COVID-19, Georgetown Parks and Recreation has modified its program offerings to provide the safest possible environment for participants and staff. The following guidelines will apply to all instructor-led programs offered by Georgetown Parks and Recreation.

For the safety of our staff and all participants, we ask that you do not participate in any program/membership if any of the following apply:

  • Known close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19
  • Fever greater or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Cough, sore throat, chills, headache, diarrhea, nausea, body aches, or loss of taste or smell
  • Awaiting the results of a COVID test

Participation in each program will be dependent upon acceptance and willingness to follow these protocols. Please refer to your specific program area below for full guidelines.

Program-specific COVID-19 protocols

Aquatics

Staff/Instructors:

Aquatics staff/instructors are encouraged to wear a face mask while working.

Masks are NOT recommended while swimming or when doing activities that could get your mask wet.

Swim instructors are encouraged to wear face shields while teaching swim lessons.

Participants:

Masks are encouraged when inside City facilities, including restroom facilities.

Athletics

Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers:

Staff/Contractor Instructors/Volunteers are encouraged to wear a face mask while working.

Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers will encourage 6 ft. of physical distancing during the program whenever possible. There may be instances when distancing may not be realistically maintained.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each program.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment.
  • Staff will perform additional cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and high-touch areas within the facility.
  • Drills requiring close contact or sharing of equipment will be minimized.

Participants:

  • Participants are encouraged to wear face masks while inside City facilities.
  • Participants should bring their own face masks.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the program; however, we encourage participants and spectators to bring their own.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.

Spectators/Parents:

  • Spectators are encouraged to wear face masks while inside City facilities, including restrooms.
  • Spectators should bring their own face masks.
Camps

Staff/Instructors/Volunteers:

Staff/Instructors/Volunteers are welcome to wear a face mask while working.

Hand sanitizer will be made available throughout the program.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Equipment, supplies, furniture, and high-touch areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly.
  • When equipment must be shared, the number of campers using it will be limited.

Set up:

  • We offer many different camp programs throughout the summer, in various locations from May 31 to August 15, 2022. When a camp has reserved a space, only camp staff and participants will be permitted in that space in order to prevent unauthorized access. Signs will be posted for public notification.

Participants/Campers:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available throughout the program.
  • Campers should bring a water bottle each day.
  • Participants are welcome to wear masks if they wish, but masks will not be provided.
  • Campers should clean personal items thoroughly at home each evening.

Drop off/Pick up:

  • For Camp Goodwater and Adventure Camp, drop off/pick up will be at the Teen/Senior side of the Recreation Center (across from the Creative Playscape). We ask parents to remain in the vehicle, and our staff will assist your child with entering/exiting.
  • For other camps, please confirm the location and bring your child directly to the instructors.
Outdoor Adventure/Senior Adult Adventure/Garey Park

Staff/Instructors:

Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers are encouraged to wear a face mask while working.

Hand sanitizer will be made available for use throughout the program.

6 ft. of physical distancing will be encouraged throughout the program. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. may not be realistically maintained.

Equipment:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each activity.
  • Equipment that cannot be sanitized using traditional cleaning methods will be set aside for a minimum of 72 hours between uses.
  • Participants will be assigned individual equipment to use during the program to eliminate shared use.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participant use throughout the program.
  • Participants are encouraged to wear a face mask while inside City facilities, including restrooms.
  • Participants should bring their own face mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • Any entrance fees to off-site facilities may be at the participant’s expense.
  • Participants may be responsible for their own transportation to off-site activities.
Tennis

Staff/Instructors:

Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers are encouraged to wear a face masks while working.

Hand sanitizer will be made available for use throughout the program.

Staff will encourage 6 ft. of physical distancing during the program when possible. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. of physical distancing may not be realistically maintained.

Instructors may have a maximum of 8 participants per court.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Water will not be provided on the courts.
  • Participants will need to bring their own racquet, towel, and water bottle.
  • Rental equipment may be available with limited checkout times to ensure sanitation in between uses.
  • Participants should not touch teaching carts or ball hoppers.
  • Staff will mitigate environmental exposures by additional cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and high touch areas within the facility.
  • Games/drills will be designed to maximize distance between players.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participant use throughout the program; however, we encourage participants and spectators to bring their own.
  • Participants are encouraged to wear face masks while inside City facilities, including restrooms.
  • Participants should bring their own mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • Participants will place water bottles and personal items against the fence at 6+ foot intervals.
  • Participants waiting on the next class will be staged outside the courts next to the designated entry gate. Participants will not be allowed to enter the courts until the previous class is completed and those participants have left the court.
  • At completion of the program, all participants shall immediately exit the courts via the designated exit gate.

Spectators/Parents:

  • Spectators/parents will not be allowed on the courts.
  • Spectators are encouraged to practice 6 ft. of physical distancing from others not in their same household.
  • Spectators/Parents are encouraged to wear face masks while inside City facilities, including restrooms.
