Georgetown Parks & Recreation

COVID-19 Program Protocols

In response to COVID-19, Georgetown Parks and Recreation has modified its program offerings to provide the safest possible environment for participants and staff. The following guidelines will apply to all instructor-led programs offered by Georgetown Parks and Recreation.

For the safety of our staff and all participants, we ask that you do not participate in the program if any of the following apply:

  • Known close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19
  • Fever greater or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Cough, sore throat, chills, headache, diarrhea, nausea, body aches, or loss of taste or smell
  • Awaiting the results of a COVID test

All program areas will address protocols for face masks, physical distancing, and sanitization requirements.  Participation in each program will be dependent upon acceptance and willingness to follow these protocols. Please refer to your specific program area below for full guidelines.

Program-specific COVID-19 protocols

Aquatics

Staff/Instructors:

Aquatics staff/instructors must wear face coverings while entering and exiting the facility, and while on the pool deck. 

Participants:

With the exception of the indoor pool at the Georgetown Recreation Center, patrons do not need to wear a face mask if they are in the water or on the pool deck. Masks must be worn when using restroom facilities.

Athletics

Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers:

  • Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers will be required to wear a face mask indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • Staff/Contract Instructors/Volunteers will encourage 6 ft. of physical distancing during the program whenever possible. There may be instances when distancing may not be realistically maintained.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each program.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment.
  • Staff will perform additional cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and high-touch areas within the facility.
  • Drills requiring close contact or sharing of equipment will be minimized.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the program; however, we encourage participants and spectators to bring their own.
  • Participants ages 10 and over must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants should bring their own face masks.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • All high fives, handshakes, and other sportsmanship contact should be eliminated.

Spectators/Parents:

  • Spectators ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Spectators should bring their own face masks.
Camps

Staff/Instructors/Volunteers:

  • Staff are required to wear a face mask while indoors and when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained outdoors.
  • Staff will be required to check temperature upon arrival each day. Any staff with a fever at or above 100.0 Fahrenheit will be sent home.
  • Hand sanitizer will be made available throughout the program. There will be scheduled bathroom/handwashing breaks after each activity.
  • 6 ft. of physical distancing will be encouraged throughout the program. There may be instances during an activity when distance may not be realistically maintained.
  • Physical contact (such as hugs, high-fives, handshaking, etc.) between campers and/or staff will be discouraged.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Equipment, supplies, furniture, and high-touch areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly.
  • Participants will be assigned some individual equipment/supplies during the program to eliminate shared use whenever possible. When equipment must be shared, the number of campers using it will be limited.
  • Activities and games will be modified to allow 6 ft. of physical distancing whenever possible.

Set up:

  • Until further notice, the Teen/Senior side of the Recreation Center will be closed to the public. Only staff and Camp Goodwater participants will be permitted in these rooms.
  • Tables and chairs will be placed to ensure campers will be seated 6 ft. apart.

Participants/Campers:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available throughout the program. There will be scheduled bathroom/handwashing breaks after each activity.
  • It is strongly recommended that campers ages 5-9 wear a face mask indoors when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Campers ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Drinking fountains are shut off; only bottle-fillers are operational. Campers should bring a water bottle each day.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during activities.
  • Physical contact (such as hugs, high-fives, handshaking, etc.) between campers and/or staff will be discouraged.

Drop off/Pick up:

  • To limit the number of people entering the facility, we will utilize a curbside drop off and pick up system at the Teen/Senior side of the Recreation Center (across from the Creative Playscape). We ask parents to remain in the vehicle, and our staff will assist your child with entering/exiting.
  • Staff will conduct a temperature screening on every child at drop off. Any child with a fever at or above 100.0 Fahrenheit will not be accepted.
Outdoor Adventure and Senior Adult Adventure

Staff/Instructors:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for use throughout the program.
  • Staff will be required to wear a face mask while indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • 6 ft. of physical distancing will be encouraged throughout the program. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. may not be realistically maintained.

Equipment:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each activity.
  • Equipment that cannot be sanitized using traditional cleaning methods will be set aside for a minimum of 72 hours between uses.
  • Participants will be assigned individual equipment to use during the program to eliminate shared use.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participant use throughout the program.
  • Participants ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants should bring their own face mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • All high fives, handshakes, and other sportsmanship contact should be eliminated.
  • Any entrance fees to off-site facilities will be at the participant’s expense
  • Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to off-site activities
Tennis

Georgetown Tennis Center has modified all instructor-led programs as recommended by USTA on Playing Tennis Safely.

Staff/Instructors:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for use throughout the program.
  • Staff will be required to wear a face mask while indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • Staff will encourage 6 ft. of physical distancing during the program when possible. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. of physical distancing may not be realistically maintained.
  • Staff will be required to check temperature upon arrival to work.
  • Instructors may have a maximum of 6 participants per court.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Rental equipment will not be available, and water will not be provided on the courts.
  • Participants will need to bring their own racquet, towel, and water bottle.
  • Participants should not touch teaching carts or ball hoppers.
  • Court benches will not be used during group lessons. During private lessons, court benches may be used, but only one person per bench, unless participants are from the same household. Court benches will be sprayed with disinfectant after each program.
  • Staff will mitigate environmental exposures by additional cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and high touch areas within the facility.
  • Games/drills will be designed to maximize distance between players.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participant use throughout the program; however, we encourage participants and spectators to bring their own.
  • Participants ages 10 and over must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants should bring their own mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • Participants will place water bottles and personal items against the fence at 6+ foot intervals.
  • Participants waiting on the next class will be staged outside the courts next to the designated entry gate. Participants will not be allowed to enter the courts until the previous class is completed and those participants have left the court.
  • At completion of the program, all participants shall immediately exit the courts via the designated exit gate.

Spectators/Parents:

  • Spectators/parents will not be allowed on the courts.
  • Spectators are encouraged to practice 6 ft. of physical distancing from others not in their same household.
  • Spectators/parents ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
