COVID-19 Program Protocols

In response to COVID-19, Georgetown Parks and Recreation has modified its program offerings in accordance with state and local guidelines to provide the safest possible environment for participants and staff. The following guidelines will apply to all instructor-led programs offered by Georgetown Parks and Recreation.

For the safety of our staff and all participants, we ask that you do not participate in the program if any of the following apply:

  • Known close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19
  • Fever greater or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Cough, sore throat, chills, headache, diarrhea, nausea, body aches, or loss of taste or smell
  • Awaiting the results of a COVID test

All program areas will address protocols for face masks, physical distancing, and sanitization requirements.  Participation in each program will be dependent upon acceptance and willingness to follow these protocols. Please refer to your specific program area below for full guidelines.

Program-specific COVID-19 protocols

Aquatics

Staff/Instructors/Participants:

Aquatics program instructors and participants must wear face coverings while entering and exiting the facility, and while lounging by the side of the pool. Patrons do not need to wear a face mask if they are in the water or actively moving to and from the water. 

Athletics

Staff/Instructors/Volunteers:

  • Staff/instructors/volunteers will be required to wear a face mask indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • Staff/instructors/volunteers will encourage 6 ft. of physical distancing during of the program when possible. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. of physical distancing may not be realistically maintained.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each program.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment.
  • Staff will perform additional cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and high touch areas within the facility.
  • Drills requiring close contact or sharing of equipment will be minimized.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the program; however, we encourage participants and spectators to bring their own.
  • Participants ages 10 and over must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants 10 and older are recommended to wear a face mask outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Participants should bring their own face masks.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • All high fives, handshakes, and other sportsmanship contact should be eliminated.

Spectators/Parents:

  • Limit one parent/guardian per participant for indoor activities.
  • All spectators must bring a face mask.
  • Spectators ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Spectators 10 and older are recommended to wear a face mask outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Seating for spectators will not be provided.
  • Spectators must practice 6 ft. of physical distancing from others not in their same household.
  • For outdoor activities, spectators should avoid being in a group larger than 10 individuals.
Camp Goodwater

Staff/Instructors/Volunteers:

  • Handwashing or hand sanitizing will occur before and after the program.
  • Staff will be required to wear a face mask while indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • 6 ft. of physical distancing will be encouraged throughout the program. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. may not be realistically maintained.
  • Staff will be required to check temperature upon arrival to work.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each program.
  • Staff will perform routine cleaning and disinfection of equipment and high touch areas within the facility.
  • Activities will include STEM, Arts and Crafts, Nature walks, Gaga Ball, free play and various other fun activities.

Set up:

  • Until further notice, the Teen/Senior side of the Recreation Center will be closed to the public.
  • Tables will be placed 6 ft. apart.
  • Max of 16 campers each day.
  • Ratio: 12 to 1; Some activities may require an extra staff member to be present.
  • The program schedule will be emailed out 3 days before the start of the program.

Participants/Campers:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participants to use throughout the program.
  • It is strongly recommended that campers under the age of 10 wear face mask over their nose and mouth, when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Participants ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants ages 10 and older are recommended to wear a face mask outdoors when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Participants should bring their own mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • All high fives, handshakes, and other sportsmanship contact should be eliminated.

What to Bring Daily:

  • All children must bring a water bottle with them daily. All water bottles must be labeled. We will not provide individual drinking cups. Children will have access to the water bottle filling stations.
  • Participants must bring a lunch daily. All food must be able to be stored in the child’s lunch box/cooler bag and should not require reheating. Refrigerators and microwaves will not be available.
  • Participants must bring their own morning snack and afternoon snack.
  • Please ensure everything you send with your child is labeled, cleaned, washed and sanitized.
  • Each day, your child should wear closed-toe athletic shoes.

Drop off/Pick up:

  • To limit the number of people entering the facility, we will utilize a curbside drop off and pick up system at the Teen/Senior side of the Recreation Center (across from the Creative Playscape). We ask parents to remain in their vehicles and our staff will assist your child with entering/exiting the vehicle. Please make sure you are prepared to show your ID at pick up. Your child may only be picked up by persons listed as a contact on the authorized pick up list.
  • Staff will conduct a temperature screening on the child at drop off. Any child with a fever at or above 100.0 Fahrenheit will not be accepted.
  • Drop off hours: 7:30-8:30 a.m.
  • Pick up hours: 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Outdoor Adventure

Staff/Instructors:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for use throughout the program.
  • Staff will be required to wear a face mask while indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • 6 ft. of physical distancing will be encouraged throughout the program. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. may not be realistically maintained.

Equipment:

  • Equipment provided by the program will be sanitized before and after each program.
  • Equipment that cannot be sanitized using traditional cleaning methods will be set aside for a minimum of 72 hours between uses.
  • Participants will be assigned individual equipment to use during the program to eliminate shared use.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participant use throughout the program.
  • Participants ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants 10 and older are recommended to wear a face mask outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Due to the nature of our outdoor adventure programs, participants may be required to wear a mask at all times.
  • Participants should bring their own face mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • All high fives, handshakes, and other sportsmanship contact should be eliminated.
Tennis

Georgetown Tennis Center has modified all instructor-led programs to adhere to all local and state guidelines and as well as recommendation by USTA on Playing Tennis Safely.

Staff/Instructors:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for use throughout the program.
  • Staff will be required to wear a face mask while indoors or when 6 ft. of physical distancing cannot be maintained when outdoors.
  • Staff will encourage 6 ft. of physical distancing during the program when possible. There may be instances during a program when 6 ft. of physical distancing may not be realistically maintained.
  • Staff will be required to check temperature upon arrival to work.
  • Instructors may have a maximum of 6 participants per court.

Equipment/Activities:

  • Rental equipment will not be available, and water will not be provided on the courts.
  • Participants will need to bring their own racquet, towel, and water bottle.
  • Participants may not handle tennis balls or court equipment. Participants may assist with ball pickup by rolling balls to corner with their racquets.  They may not use hoppers or hands.
  • Court benches will not be used during group lessons. During private lessons, court benches may be used, but only one person per bench, unless participants are from the same household. Court benches will be sprayed with disinfectant after each program.
  • Serving drills will not take place during group lessons. Serving drills may be used in private lessons if the participant brings their own tennis balls to use specifically for this purpose. Instructor should ensure that the participant’s tennis balls do not mix in with the teaching balls.
  • Staff will mitigate environmental exposures by additional cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and high touch areas within the facility.
  • Games/drills will be designed to maximize distance between players.

Participants:

  • Hand sanitizer will be made available for participant use throughout the program; however, we encourage participants and spectators to bring their own.
  • Participants ages 10 and over must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Participants 10 and older are recommended to wear a face mask outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Participants should bring their own mask.
  • Participants must bring their own water bottle.
  • Participants will be asked to maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing when feasible during the program.
  • Participants will place water bottles and personal items against the fence at 6+ foot intervals.
  • Participants may not handle tennis balls or equipment other than their own racquet, towel, and water bottle.
  • Participants waiting on the next class will be staged outside the courts next to the designated entry gate. Participants will not be allowed to enter the courts until the previous class is completed and those participants have left the court.
  • At completion of the program, all participants shall immediately exit the courts via the designated exit gate.

Spectators/Parents:

  • Spectators/parents will not be allowed on the courts.
  • Spectators must practice 6 ft. of physical distancing from others not in their same household.
  • All spectators must bring a face mask.
  • Spectators/parents ages 10 and older must wear a face mask while indoors.
  • Spectators/parents 10 and older are recommended to wear a face mask outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Spectators must practice 6 ft. of physical distancing from others not in their same household.
