Play Ranch

The Play Ranch is two acres full of fun! Two nature-inspired playgrounds offer age-appropriate activities for children ages 2-5 and 5-12.

The Play Ranch includes a sensory station, merry-go-round, monkey bars, spring riders and zip lines. The large swing sets include full bucket swing seats, basic belt swing seats, as well as four adaptive swings. There are plenty of open green spaces for running, picnicking and kite flying too!

Rentable pavilions, restrooms and parking are within walking distance of the Play Ranch.

Play Ranch Rules

  1. Adult supervision required.
  2. Smoking is prohibited.
  3. Use or possession of any glass bottles is prohibited.
  4. No outside grills.
  5. No pets allowed on the splash pad.
  6. Children who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers.
  7. Splash Pad closes 30 minutes prior to park closing.
  8. Pets must remain on leash and under the control of owner.
  9. Exhibit appropriate language and behavior.
  10. Please do not remove or damage Play Ranch features or vegetation.
  11. Be aware of your surroundings and respectful of other park guests.
  12. The pavilion and picnic tables are available for general use unless reserved.
  13. No commercial or business activities allowed in the park, unless authorized by the City of Georgetown.
  14. Fundraisers may not be conducted in the Play Ranch area.
  15. Place litter in receptacles.
Splash Pad

Keep cool on hot summer days at Garey Park’s splash pad. The nearly 7,000-square-foot amenity offers 28 water features controlled by motion sensors, including five water cannons, two water tunnels, a spider spray and a water mill.

The splash pad is open daily during park hours from April 1 through Oct. 31, weather permitting. The splash pad closes 30 minutes prior to park closing.

Dog Ranch

The off-leash Dog Ranch features 4.5 acres of fenced natural area for your furry friend to enjoy! This space offers separate fenced areas for small and large dogs to play catch, run and make new friends. The Dog Ranch also includes five shaded picnic shelters and water stations with dog drinking fountains.

Much of the space has been cleared, providing a wonderful spot for you and your dog to explore nature. The Dog Ranch is maintained frequently, but please be aware that this is a natural ranch setting and may include plants or critters that can poke or sting your furry friend.

Georgetown Parks and Recreation strives to provide a fun, safe environment for you and your dog(s). Use of the Dog Ranch is at your own risk. Dog owners/handlers are responsible for the actions and behaviors of their dogs at all times. Any harm to humans or canines is your responsibility.

Dog Ranch Rules

The following rules will apply to any off-leash dog recreation area and will be posted:

USE OF THE DOG PARK IS AT YOUR OWN RISK! DOG OWNERS/HANDLERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR OF THEIR DOGS AT ALL TIMES!

  • No dangerous dogs or dogs classified as aggressive, pursuant to the City of Georgetown Animal Ordinance Chapter 7.05 are allowed.
  • Dogs showing any signs of aggression must be leashed and immediately removed from the park.
  • Dogs with two documented incidents of aggression are banned from the park.
  • All dogs must be leashed when entering and leaving the park.
  • All dogs must have current rabies and all other vaccinations as required by the City of Georgetown and should be healthy and free of contagious diseases and parasites.
  • Dogs must wear current license tags in the dog park.
  • Dog owners/handlers must ensure that their dog’s rabies vaccination tag is attached to their dog’s collar while in the Dog Park.
  • Spiked collars are not permitted.
  • The small dog enclosure is for dogs under 30 pounds.
  • Dog owners/handlers must never leave dogs unattended.
  • Dogs must be in view of and within voice control of their owner/handler at all times.
  • Dog owners/handlers must carry a leash with them at all times while in the Dog Park.
  • Dog owners/handlers are responsible for picking up and disposing of all their dogs waste.
  • Dogs in heat are prohibited.
  • Dogs under 4 months of age are prohibited.
  • All dogs must be under the control of an adult and there is a limit of 2 dogs per adult in the dog park at any time.
  • With the exception of water, no food or drink (dog or person) is allowed in the park.
  • No glass containers allowed in the dog park.
  • Children under 12 years of age must be under strict adult supervision. Running and chasing dogs is prohibited.
  • Dog owners/handlers waive any and all liability to the City for any injury or damage caused (by dogs or persons) while accessing or using the city parks.
  • A Dog Ranch Rule Violation Incident Form for rule violations should be completed within 48 hours.
  • Park is subject to closure upon determination by the City that there is a reason deemed to be in the public’s interest or safety.
  • Dog owners/handlers may not chain or tether a dog with any restraint unless said person is holding the restraint.
  • Any and all equipment, waste, or any other item brought into the park by an individual must be removed at the time of departure by said individual.

Equestrian Amenities

Whether you want take your horse on the trails or practice on our obstacle course, Garey Park offers amenities designed specifically for horse owners.

A current negative Coggins test must be presented at the Garey Park Gate House before entering the park. In compliance with the Texas Animal Health Commission, no person may enter Garey Park with an equine or equines unless that person has in their immediate possession, a completed VS Form 10-11 (Texas Animal Health Commission) showing that the equine has tested negative to an official Equine Infectious Anemia test within the previous 12 months. The documentation required by this subsection shall be made available for inspection at the request of any Garey Park employee or volunteer acting within the scope of official duties.

Garey Park’s Equestrian Center features:

  • 100′ x 200′ uncovered arena. The arena is open for public use during park hours unless previously reserved.

Equestrian Rules

  1. Adult supervision required.
  2. Smoking is prohibited.
  3. For safety of horses and riders, no running or yelling in equestrian area.
  4. All horses must be under control of owner at all times.
  5. Please do not leave your horse unattended in any area including riding arena.
  6. Horses will be ridden at a safe speed around pedestrians and in shared spaces.
  7. Please be courteous of other riders, guests, and their animals.
  8. Keep horses on equestrian trails only.
  9. Horse owners are responsible for properly disposing of manure in the parking area.
  10. Children age 15 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  11. For the safety of horses and riders, no running or yelling in equestrian area.
  12. Restore all areas to natural appearance after use.
  13. Horses are not to consume any natural vegetation within the park.
  14. No commercial or business activities allowed in the park, unless authorized by the City of Georgetown.
  15. In cases of an emergency, call 911 immediately and notify park staff at 512-930-6800.
  16. All equestrian users are required to show proof of negative Coggins test.

Equestrian Day Pen Rules

  1. Pens are available for day use only. No reservation required.
  2. Horses may be left unattended; two-hour limit per user.
  3. Users are not responsible for properly disposing of manure from day pen after use.
  4. Do not approach animals without owner permission.
  5. No smoking.
Trails

Hiking trail at Garey Park in Georgetown, TX

Garey Park has more than seven miles of trails spanning the entire park, giving hikers and horseback riders an opportunity to explore the park’s beautiful natural areas.

The shared-use trail is 4.68 miles. The 10-feet-wide trail is made of crushed white limestone and can accommodate both hikers and horseback riders alike.

In addition, there are there are 2.6 miles of pedestrian-only trails, which are made up of red crushed granite.

Bikes are not allowed on the trails, but are welcome on paved roadways. 

All trail users are encouraged to practice proper trail etiquette.

Trail Rules

  1. Respect other users, expect other users.
  2. Smoking is prohibited.
  3. Be friendly and courteous.
  4. No bicycles on trails.
  5. No carriages on trails.
  6. On shared equestrian/hiking trails, ride, walk, or run on the right, pass on the left.
  7. Stay on the trail. Creating your own trail or cutting switchbacks creates erosion, damages habitat and causes new trails which cannot be maintained.
  8. Downhill traffic should yield to uphill traffic. When in doubt, give the other user the right of way.
  9. Warn people when you are planning to pass.
  10. Anticipate other trail users around corners and blind spots.
  11. Ride within your ability at all times.
  12. Respect wildlife.
  13. Use caution when using headphones. You may not be able to hear people trying to warn you.
  14. Leave no trace. Pack out your litter.

Fishing

Fisherman holding a fish at the Upper Pond at Garey Park in Georgetown, tXAnglers may fish from the banks of the park’s ponds. Wade fishing and swimming are not allowed in the ponds. The two-acre lower pond is stocked with bass, perch, catfish and feeder fish. The 1.5-acre upper pond, located next to Garey House, is stocked with bass, perch and feeder fish. Fishing in the upper pond is not allowed during private events at Garey House. 

All fishing is catch-and-release. A fishing license is required to fish in the ponds.

Canoes, kayaks and other watercraft are not allowed in the ponds.

Fishing is also allowed along the San Gabriel River. Please note that the land across the river is private property. No trespassing is allowed. You must possess a fishing license in order to fish in the San Gabriel River.

San Gabriel River

Garey Park borders the beautiful San Gabriel River. The San Gabriel River watershed is a natural watercourse. Recreational contact and use is at your own risk.

The land across the river is private property. No trespassing is allowed. You must possess a fishing license in order to fish in the San Gabriel River.

Wildlife Viewing

The Good Water Master Naturalists have constructed a 1.5-mile nature trail along the South San Gabriel River.

The lower section is primarily grassland and will provide excellent viewing of sparrows in the winter. The upper portion of the trail weaves through a heavily wooded area which will be an active trail in migration. They have raised $12,000 for the construction of a Wildlife Viewing Blind, which includes a water feature, fencing and landscaping.

Garey House

Garey House has approximately 2,000 square feet of combined indoor event space, best suited for intimate events of 50-80 guests. The property also includes nearly 7,500 square feet of combined outdoor event space, which can accommodate larger events with up to 125 guests.
