Total Solar Eclipse April 8; Tips for visiting Garey Park

The Total Solar Eclipse will occur April 8 at 1:36 p.m. in Georgetown! While Georgetown Parks and Recreation is not hosting any official events, our parks will make for some excellent viewing locations.
Some tips if you plan to visit Garey Park:
  • Garey Park entry fees will be collected at the park entrance. Fees are $2/Georgetown Resident and $4/Nonresident. Children 3 years and younger are free. Please bring cash to expedite the entry process.
  • The park will close to incoming traffic if/when the park reaches capacity, and can no longer accommodate any additional vehicles.
  • Garey Park hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. beginning April 1. Please do not attempt to access the park outside of the posted hours of operation. Parking will only be allowed in designated parking areas.
  • The Garey House grounds will be closed all day for a private event.
  • It is possible that traffic will get backed up along the entry and exit roads. Please remain calm and exercise patience when entering and exiting the park. Park staff will process entry as quickly as possible.
  • Consider delaying your exit to avoid anticipated heavy traffic on roadways after the eclipse. Garey Park offers a variety of amenities, including playground, hiking trails, and a dog park to enjoy before you head home.
So gather your eclipse glasses and be prepared for some disruptions in your work/school day due to an influx of umbraphiles (that’s eclipse lovers for those in the know)!
