Parent and Child (ages 6 month-3 years)

Mother and daughter participate in swim lessons at the Georgetown Recreation Center indoor pool

A safe and fun introduction to the water for youth ages 6 months to 3 years to share with a participating adult guardian. The purpose of the course is to familiarize children with the water and teach swimming readiness skills. In addition, the course provides safety information for parents and teaches parents techniques they can use to help orient their children to the water. Water safety topics for the pool, home, beach and waterpark are also included.

Preschool 1 (ages 3-5)

Preschool Aquatics Level 1: Introduces basic aquatic skill, which children continue to build on as they progress through Levels 2 and 3 of Preschool Aquatics and then Learn to Swim. Children start developing positive attitudes and safe practices around the water. Many skills are performed with assistance from the instructor.

Preschool 2 (ages 4-5)

Preschool Aquatics Level 2: Further development of basic aquatic skills continues. Children begin to perform skills at a slightly more advanced level by practicing skills for a longer period of time or longer distances. This also marks the beginning of independent skills.

Level 1 (ages 6+)

Children participate in a swim lesson at the Georgetown Recreation Center indoor pool

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills – Orients swimmers to aquatic environment and helps develop a positive attitude and safe practices. This level is for the non-swimmer who does not submerge head or body.

Level 2 (ages 6+)

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills – Builds on the basic aquatic skills and concepts learned in Level 1. Requires successful completion of Level 1 or ability to fully submerge, float on front and back with support for 5 seconds and recover.

Level 3 (ages 6+)

Swim lessons

Level 3: Stroke Development- Continue to build on skills learned in Levels 1 and 2 in order to achieve water competency in the pool. Requires successful completion of Level 2 or ability to swim 5 body lengths using a combination of arm and leg actions as well as float or tread for 15 seconds. It is common for children to participate in several sessions of Level 1 before they successfully demonstrate each skill. That is okay! It is not important how quickly they move through a level, but that they acquire each skill.

Georgetown Swim Academy (Ages 6-15)

This advanced swimming program is designed to build on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program and teach participants swimming skills that will advance them to swim at higher levels and/or prep them to join a swim team.

On the first day of class, participants will be evaluated to determine the best swim level placement for them within the three levels of the Georgetown Swim Academy (Level 1, 2, and 3). Participants must have successfully completed the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Level 3 course to be eligible to join the academy. All participants are required to attend and pass Georgetown Swim Academy Level 1 before advancing to level 2 and 3. Some students may test out of Swim Academy Level 1 on the first day of class if their swimming ability proves they should be placed at a higher level.

Georgetown Swim Academy Level 1 (Ages 6-15):
This advanced swimming program is designed to build on the Learn to Swim Program. Participants will be taught refined freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Participants must have successfully completed the Learn to Swim Level 3 class.

Georgetown Swim Academy Level 2 (Ages 6-15):
This advanced swimming program is designed to build on the Swim Academy Level 1 program. Participants will be taught starts, turns and circle swimming skills and will start to develop swim conditioning skills. Participants must have successfully completed the Swim Academy level 1 class.

Georgetown Swim Academy Level 3 (Ages 6-15) :
This advanced program is designed to build on the skills learned in Georgetown Swim Academy 1 and 2. The purpose of this level is to focus on conditioning and pre-competitive preparedness. Participants must have successfully completed the Swim Academy level 2.

Adult (ages 12+)

Adult level classes help teens or adults overcome their fear of the water and learn the skills to achieve a degree of water competency. Our team of instructors will help participants gain basic aquatic skills and/or refine the participant’s swimming strokes to meet individual goals.
